Top Indonesian Traditional Snacks to try

When you are taking a break or needing to eat light, Indonesian traditional snacks would be the option!

I have compiled a list of the favorite by multiple people, Indonesian traditional snacks here in Indonesia.

1- Lemper

Lemper is thought to have come from Java. It is glutinous rice mixed with shredded chicken. This Indonesian traditional snack has a strong taste of coconut milk. One of my favorites!

2- Sosis Solo

Sosis Solo comes from Solo, just like the name itself states. Solo is in Central Java. It is minced meat inside an omelet roll.

3- Semar Mendem

Semar Mendem comes from Yogyakarta. Similar to Lemper, it is shredded chicken inside glutinous rice. However, the glutinous rice of the lemper is wrapped around by a banana leaf, while the glutinous rice is wrapped around by an egg mixture.

4- Rujak

Rujak comes from Central Java. It is a fruit salad mixed in a spicy dressing. Some vendors provide you with the option of picking the spiciness level from very high to low.

5- Nagasari Hongkue

Nagasari Hongkue is thought to have received its popularity from Java. This is Indonesia’s version of a banana cake. The nagasari hongkue is a banana cake wrapped in a banana leaf.
